Honestly, Mr. Dery takes the mundane subject of history and turns it into a fun and engaging adventure. Coming into his class, I was prepared to sit through another boring history class, but he genuinely opened my eyes to how interesting history could be. Whenever we do mental health lessons, he provides great advice for our lives out of the textbook and gives his own experiences to compare and contrast. He has engaging discussions with the class while lecturing, which makes me super confident to speak in his class. He supports me by making me feel like I can talk to him about things in and out of the classroom. In all, Mr. Dery, to me, deserves to win this award for his kindness, teaching style, and engaging activities.
