My name is Greg Downing and I am stepdad to Bao and Han Huynh, grades 6 and 8 respectively. I immigrated Bao and Han, along with their mom, Linh, in December of 2025. None of them spoke English when we arrived. I enrolled Bao and Han in Harney Middle school in January with the help and guidance of the office staff. On the morning of the kids first day of school, we were introduced to Mr. Vu Nguyen. He is a teacher at Harney MS, but more important, he instantly became a friend. The evening of the kids first day of school, Linh and I received a beautifully written email from Mr. Nguyen welcoming us to the school and offering assistance for anything we may need. The email was written in English and Vietnamese. This was so awesome, mainly because Linh and I could both read it and we immediately knew the kids were in the right school with the right staff. Mr. Nguyen went well out of his way to put Linh and I at ease during a very stressful time for mostly Linh and the kids but for me too. Thank you Mr. Nguyen!
