Congratulations to
Life-Changing Teaching Award Nominee
TINA WALSH
FARINE ELEMENTARY
STUDENT RECOGNITION STORY
My son started the year in first grade struggling to say the least. He is GT but was having serious behavioral issues and would regularly meltdown in the classroom and elope. We knew he had anxiety but Ms. Walsh worked with us to make the decision to get him diagnosed so we could make a game plan to work together and get him back to being successful. After both an ADHD and Anxiety diagnosis, and lots of time working with my kid we developed a united plan. Ms. Walsh checked in with me every day. Sometimes multiple times a day. She followed up on weekends, and utilized the advice his play therapist had us use. She worked with him one on one and got to know him and what he was anxious about and advocated for him. He started the year being pulled from class almost every day because of behavior. His test scores were horrible because he was missing class. By the end of the year every day was fantastic, he was in class, participating and engaging. And because of the relationship she built with me and him, his academic success skyrocketed. It truly felt like a team effort. I have never experienced a teacher going that above and beyond to help a child. There was a good chance that year would have made my son hate school, and instead because of her care and relationship building he will be a life long learner. I will forever be grateful for her.
