Mr. Cortez is an outstanding teacher and mentor who brings dedication, enthusiasm, and passion to the after-school chess club. Our son loves chess and looks forward to their weekly practices, where Mr. Cortez creates a fun and challenging environment that helps the kids grow their skills and confidence. He goes above and beyond by dedicating his own time—spending entire Saturdays twice a year—to take the students to the DISD Chess Tournament, giving them the opportunity to showcase their abilities and represent their school with pride. Mr. Cortez’s commitment, encouragement, and support make a lasting impact on the students, fostering not only their love of chess but also teamwork, sportsmanship, and school spirit.
