Congratulations to
Life-Changing Teaching Award Nominee
SONYA WEBER
CLEARWATER ELEMENTARY
STUDENT RECOGNITION STORY
As Chase is completing his final year of elementary school before he transitions to middle school, one teacher who significantly influenced his love and excitement for learning stands out. Sonya Weber is a passionate educator who has a unique way of storytelling, using humor, and relating to students to create a learning environment that makes students excited to come to school each day. In addition, she goes above and beyond to communicate with parents and is a true partner in students’ educational journeys. While Sonya excels teaching at any grade level, she was especially gifted working with fourth grade students and relating to nine and ten year olds. Fourth grade is a milestone year where reading comprehension and mathematical concepts become markedly more complex. Through her humor and storytelling, she has the unique ability to connect with students at the fourth grade level to help them learn while remaining excited and motivated to come to school each day. Fourth grade is a milestone year where students can easily become frustrated with more complex subject matter as they advance in elementary, and Sonya’s gift of teaching while relating to fourth grade students helps students thrive during a pivotal school year. Chase expressed that he felt heard, understood, and cared about by Sonya. She was consistently fair and an advocate for her students. Sonya is an asset to Clearwater Elementary who should be celebrated and recognized. I personally can’t thank her enough for the positive impact she made on Chase’s elementary experience and setting him up for success as he transitions to middle school.
