It is with immense gratitude and admiration that I nominate Mr. McQuillan for the Honored Schools Award. As a second-grade teacher, Mr. McQuillan has made a profound and lasting impact on my son’s life — and I believe that kind of dedication deserves to be recognized. When my son entered Mr. McQuillan’s second-grade classroom, he was performing below grade level in both reading and math. By the end of the year, he is at or above grade level in both subjects. That progress did not happen by accident. It happened because Mr. McQuillan created an environment where every child feels supported, challenged, and capable of growth. What sets Mr. McQuillan apart is his intentionality. His classroom is structured with clear expectations, so children always know what is asked of them and can focus on learning rather than uncertainty. He sets meaningful, achievable goals for each student and works tirelessly to help them reach those goals. My son thrived in that environment — and I watched his confidence grow alongside his academic skills. A teacher who can take a child from struggling to succeeding is rare. Mr. McQuillan is that teacher. He is exactly the kind of educator this award was created to honor, and I cannot recommend him highly enough.
