Congratulations to
Life-Changing Teaching Award Nominee
ROYCE ABDALLA
ROBERSON MIDDLE SCHOOL

STUDENT RECOGNITION STORY

A man who is as calm as Sensei Wu from Ninjago, a man who values courage and teamwork, that man is known as Mr. Abdalla. Walking into his class calms my nerves, allowing me to regain myself from all the work. While other classes can feel like getting hit by a bus, his classroom feels like a place to take things at an easier pace. Those things alone are a huge reason why I enjoy being there. One of the things that makes Mr. Abdalla so amazing is how understanding he is. He gives us a reasonable amount of time to finish our work, because he knows we’re still students and not a machine that can finish things in a snap. His class feels like a steady heartbeat in the middle of a busy day, a place to do things more efficiently. That kind of environment makes learning and doing projects feel more natural, not forced, and makes me excited to show up to the class. What really makes Mr.Abdalla special is how much he cares about me and my future. He prepares us for interviews and high school like a light shining on my path. He also helped me become a more confident person with my work, praising me. This helped me acknowledge that my creativity doesn’t have to be a burden in a world of black and white, but can be the splash of color needed. Mr. Abdalla also further supports me in class. An example is when I had a partner for a project who didn’t do any work, he allowed me to explain my problems with him, and he had the perfect resolution. His support doesn’t only occur when class ends. One time when I was crying on my way to his class, he noticed right away, asked if I was okay, and sent me with a friend to Mr.Briggs so I could be comforted. That showed me that he cared about his students and could handle things responsibly. He understands that we, as students, can have emotions. Overall, Mr. Abdalla is the kind of teacher who just teaches, but teaches us life lessons that can help us build confidence and communication skills.
