SMITH ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
STUDENT RECOGNITION STORY
I never knew the dedication needed from a teacher until I married one.
I have been with my wife ever since she started her career as a SPED aid. As the years pass, I have seen her evolve from that aid to now teaching her own classroom. From that aid I have seen her become a Spring I.S.D. Rookie Teacher of the year & also Sping ISD ESL teacher of there year.
I see the happy days and the trying days as a teacher. I admire, love and respect her dedication to her students. Phone calls with parents weekly and into the later hours of the evening, just to make sure the children are getting the support needed at home to succeed. Making sure the students are succeeding & progressing in 2 languages. Finding ways to make sure the children stay engaged and learning thru activities and demonstrations.
She is also the team lead in her grade, so on top of her work load, she is also helping and developing the other teachers in her group. Her battery never ceases to amaze me.
I used to have a misconstrued idea that teachers had it easy, because they get 3 months of summer off plus all the holidays ,etc. It is safe to say, that is not my mindset anymore. She attends training sessions and volunteers for summer tutoring. Portions of her holiday time is dedicated to having lesson plans and things ready for when she returns. Her coming from a family with teachers, I can truly say that she has had that "Teaching spark" from the day I met her, and that spark is now a burning torch.... And now that torch is being shared in my own family, as now my daughter Jazmynn is attending Sam
Houston University to become ..... A TEACHER.
I know and believe that she living the life that God has planned for her. I know and believe that her being a believer in Christ, puts the empathy and compassion in her that is needed in that role. And I know and believe that God isn't done with her.
Watching her, she has taught me so much. That's how she has changed my life.
