Coach Hammond is such a beloved member of the team at Sanger. Madi's first year there, she couldn't stop raving about how much she loves her, and gym class is her favorite, and she got another 'super star ticket', and so on! I volunteered at last year's Field Day and saw firsthand how much care and attention she put into planning that event - no small task for a school of over 800, spanning from Pre-K to 8th Grade. This year, it even includes some of our special education classes - during a garden work day last weekend, I heard parents and a teacher talking about how excited they are to have more inclusion in this year's Field Day activities. Coach Hammond also coordinates a group of students to run in the Oncor Kid's Race each year, a fun and free event that's part of the larger Dallas Marathon weekend activities. She is truly invested in our kiddos, and it shows. During a community meeting with the district bond construction team, she was vocal about concerns regarding converting the old gym into the cafeteria and the loss of space for elementary PE. She stressed the importance of what she provides to students daily and clearly demonstrated the need for additional considerations when they convert the auditorium into a multi-use space (including resources for PE). I loved hearing the unbridled advocacy for students and their right (and need) to move their bodies and truly get a physical education. Thanks for all you do, Coach Hammond!
