Congratulations to
Life-Changing Teaching Award Nominee
RAYMOND HERNANDEZ
LAKE WORTH HIGH SCHOOL

STUDENT RECOGNITION STORY

Not only does he make his classes entertaining for everyone, he also takes the time to know and understand his students situations. I'm always excited to go to his class because he makes the classroom feel like less of a jail cell and more a safe learning environment. He tries to make each class different and fun while teaching us the necessary skills to pass the class. He hosts parties such as the party we had for Thanksgiving which wasn't a requirement. He put in his own time and money to provide a little something for people who might not get it at home. Everyone pitched in a little but he always encourages new opinions and ideas. He even started a group at the school so that students who enjoy Criminal Justice can join and compete with it outside of school. He holds meetings and classes and even encourages fundraisers for students who need help with club expenses. He makes us feel confident by showing that we won't get in trouble for expressing ourselves and gives rewards when you do well while still making sure to enforce the rules. He makes projects, and essays, and ensures we stay off our phones, yet the whole class still adores him. He supports us by noticing the small things and sharing his ideas. Im lucky enough to be in his 5th period class so I see him every day. He makes sure every student in our class is included and no one is left out. There are students that don't speak English very well and even though Mr. Hernandez isn't bilingual he tries his best and makes sure he gets the same education everyone else does. Overall, I can't think of another teacher who cares as much as he does. I genuinely think he enjoys coming to work everyday to inspire young minds and share what he has learned.
