Through some really tough circumstances, my great niece came to live with me. She had no regular education until the spring of her eighth grade year. Transitioning into a new family in a new city and starting a formal education confronted her with daily challenges. She really appreciates Ms. Denning’s frequent check ins to make sure she is doing well. She appreciates how Ms. Denning introduces and explains new material, provides thorough review materials before tests, and is flexible with opportunities to catch up on work. As the one who does the math tutoring at home, I am also appreciative of the step by step instructions provided to the students that I frequently use in explaining anything my niece finds challenging. I also appreciate communication from Ms. Denning whenever she has a concern about my niece. Finally, Ms. Denning is one of the coaches for the new Unified Track Team at NCHS. The coaches’ emphasis on inclusion makes my niece feel included even when she’s supposedly in the position of being the provider of the inclusion not the recipient.
