Congratulations to
Life-Changing Teaching Award Nominee
PHILLIP VACCARO
ROBERSON MIDDLE SCHOOL

STUDENT RECOGNITION STORY

The Periodic Teacher Many teachers at Roberson work hard to ensure their students are receiving the best education possible, but I believe that one educator has improved my science grades through their dedication to teaching me and friendly personality. Being a student in Mr. Vaccaro’s class has elevated my grades and enhanced my understanding of science concepts. I would like to express my gratitude for his commitment and enthusiasm in teaching 8th-grade science. His passion for the subject is evident, and it has made the classroom environment engaging and enjoyable for me. Mr. Vaccaro is as balanced as a chemical equation because he does not pile a bunch of work on me all at once, making it easy to complete assignments without any stress. On the date that our Stars Project presentation was due, He noticed that multiple students had not submitted or even completed the assignment, and gave us an extra 5-day extension to get it completed. Mr. Vaccaro is also a very chill and laid-back teacher, but that does not mean that he doesn't care about his students’ grades and performance in his class. I remember, at the beginning of the year, he said that there are 3 types of students in his class. The gifted students, the students who put in effort, and the lazy students. The gifted students think they’re better than everyone else, and because of that, they don’t feel the need to put in any effort. The lazy students don’t want to do any work, submit assignments, or put in any effort at all. The students that put in the effort, work hard, despite not understanding the concepts. He then asked us, “Which student are you?”, and that made me think. At that time, I considered myself a lazy student. I slacked off on my work, turned in half-effort assignments, and could not care less about school. But I wanted to be a better student, I wanted to try my hardest in class, even if I didn’t quite understand what was being taught. So, I want to thank Mr. Vaccaro for inspiring me to work harder and become the student that I am today.
