I have ADHD and school has always been very difficult for me, not because the material is hard, but because I can’t sit and concentrate for long periods like other kids. Ms. Herrera was the first teacher who understood and knew exactly how to help me. Every teacher I have had up until that point treated me like I was a problem or a nuisance and that made me feel like I was a bad kid. Ms. Herrera turned it into a super power. She told me to focus on things that interested me and we focused on my strengths, not weaknesses, together. Sure, I still had tough days- we got through them together. She made me feel seen, understood, loved, smart, but more importantly NORMAL. I am now is 9th grade and one of the top in my class. I can not thank her enough for changing the trajectory of my education for the better and the way I view my “disability.”
