WILLIAM R LUMMIS ELEMENTARY
STUDENT RECOGNITION STORY
As Kalvin’s mom, I see every day the difference Mrs. Kolar makes in his life. Kalvin has an IEP, and school has not always come easily for him. As a parent, you always hope your child will feel supported, understood, and confident at school. Mrs. Kolar has given Kalvin that and more.
Because of her, Kalvin actually looks forward to going to school each day. He comes home talking about what he learned, the questions he asked, and the things he is excited to try next. Seeing him enjoy learning and want to be at school means everything to me.
Mrs. Kolar does such a wonderful job supporting Kalvin while still challenging him. She recognizes his needs but also sees his potential. When Kalvin asks questions about math, she takes the time to explain how to work through the problem and will even show him more advanced ways to solve it so he can really understand. She encourages his curiosity instead of rushing past it, and that has helped him grow so much.
She also encourages a strong connection between home and school. She makes it easy for parents to stay involved and helps us understand how we can support Kalvin’s learning at home. It feels like we are working together for him.
What stands out most about Mrs. Kolar is how much she genuinely cares about her students. She has created a classroom where Kalvin feels comfortable asking questions, trying difficult things, and believing in himself. As a mother, there is nothing more meaningful than seeing your child excited to learn and proud of the progress they are making.
Mrs. Kolar is the kind of teacher who makes a lasting difference in a child’s life, and our family is incredibly grateful for the care, patience, and encouragement she shows Kalvin every day.
