Life-Changing Teaching Award Nominee
MONICA KOLAR
WILLIAM R LUMMIS ELEMENTARY
STUDENT RECOGNITION STORY
Charlie’s third grade teacher, Mrs. Kolar, is truly a gift to the Lummis community. In a grade level often seen as a difficult transition from the early elementary years to the increased rigor of intermediate learning, she bridges that gap with care and skill.
She guides her students to confidently discover their strengths by turning challenges into meaningful learning moments. Through this approach, students grow from passive learners into confident individuals who feel safe, supported, and ready to take on new challenges.
Each morning begins with her warm smile and kind greeting, setting a feeling of positivity and respect that carries throughout the day. Mrs. Kolar fills her classroom with engaging lessons that reach all varieties of learners, recognizing that every child brings a unique set of strengths. She teaches her students to see those differences not as obstacles, but as strengths.
Whether a child learns best visually, through hands-on activities, or through discussion, her classroom offers a wide range of meaningful learning experiences. Every part of the day is thoughtfully planned, ensuring students are constantly engaged and supported.
Mrs. Kolar’s dedication doesn’t end at 3:11 pm. She is a constant advocate for her students, offering after-school support and maintaining thoughtful communication with families.
What sets Mrs. Kolar apart is not just what and how she teaches, but how deeply she cares for each of her students individually. She is undoubtedly a teacher her students and their families will fondly remember well past third grade.
