Congratulations to
Life-Changing Teaching Award Nominee
MAURICE HUMPHREY
PIONEER PARK ELEMENTARY
STUDENT RECOGNITION STORY
This year in P.E., I learned that Dr. Maurice Humphrey is more than just a teacher. He is someone who really cares about kids and wants us to be our best. At first, I thought P.E. would just be about running and playing games, but Dr. Humphrey showed me it’s also about teamwork, trying hard, and believing in yourself.
Dr. Humphrey makes class fun and exciting. He always has a lot of energy, and he encourages us even when things are hard. If we feel like giving up, he reminds us to keep going and do our best. Because of him, I feel more confident when I try new activities, even if I’m not sure I’ll be good at them right away.
He shows he cares about us in many ways. He cheers us on, gives us advice, and tells us he’s proud when we improve. One big moment I remember is when he took the running team to and from the MLK 1-mile run. He even made sure we ate before returning home. He didn’t have to do that, but he gave his time so we could be there and do something special. That made me feel supported and important.
Dr. Humphrey also helps me outside of class. He teaches me to be responsible, respectful, and to never give up. He believes in me, and that makes me believe in myself more. He helps me feel brave enough to try hard things, not just in P.E., but in other classes too.
Dr. Humphrey is not only a great P.E. teacher, but he is also a great role model. I’m thankful for all the ways he helps me grow and become a better and more confident student and person.
