Congratulations to
Life-Changing Teaching Award Nominee
MARY CALLENDER
MACARTHUR HIGH SCHOOL
STUDENT RECOGNITION STORY
One thing that excites me about going to Miss Callender’s class is that she is an excellent teacher—always ready to give her absolute best, even when she is tired. Even if her students treat her poorly, she is always there for them. Miss Callender is the best because she has a huge heart; she is sweet to everyone and is always there for us, through thick and thin. When I took her 9th-grade English I Honors class, I struggled with speaking, writing, and reading English. Yet she was always right there with me, helping me succeed. Whenever I didn't know how to say something in English, I would say it to her in Spanish; she could barely understand me, but she stuck with me regardless. In fact, I think that’s partly how she learned a little Spanish herself. She is a wonderful woman and a truly great teacher—something I will always maintain. I have a deep respect for her, particularly for the immense patience she shows in dealing with so many students. She is also a gifted instructor; she explains things very clearly—which is a real blessing, as there are many teachers who go through the motions of teaching without it ever truly feeling like they are. She pours her whole heart into her work and into helping every single one of us succeed. As I said before, Miss Callender is the best teacher of all. And I love her very much.
