Ms. Douglass has had a lasting impact on our family, having been the teacher for both of my sons, my oldest last year and my younger son this year. She has always held them to high standards, but she does so with a caring, motherly perspective that makes it clear her expectations come from a place of genuine concern and commitment. Whenever challenges arise, she consistently reaches out to us as parents so we can be immediately involved and help our children get back on track. At the same time, she never fails to share the positive moments, the growth she sees, the good decisions they make, and the progress they achieve. That balance speaks volumes about the way she views her role as an educator. Ms. Douglass also takes attendance and consistency seriously. When one of our sons missed school, she personally contacted us, not to reprimand, but to emphasize how important it is for students to be present. Her approach was caring and thoughtful, and it was clear she understands the importance of what she does, not just for her classroom, but for society as a whole. Teachers like Ms. Douglass are rare. She takes a genuine interest in her students’ lives, even beyond the classroom, and that care is evident in everything she does. I truly wish all teachers approached their profession with the same dedication and perspective. My younger son has a strong personality and, in the past, has been challenging for some teachers to manage. With Ms. Douglass, however, he shows genuine respect. He has even told me that when he gets into trouble with her, it actually makes him feel bad, because he doesn’t want to disappoint her. That is a rare and powerful gift in teaching, especially with young boys who often test boundaries and authority. Ms. Douglass does not simply teach, she builds character, accountability, and respect. Our family is deeply grateful for the role she has played in our children’s lives, and she is truly deserving of recognition.
