Congratulations to
Life-Changing Teaching Award Nominee
LAURA SMITH
BOOKER ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
STUDENT RECOGNITION STORY
Mrs. Laura Smith is the special education ECSE pre-K teacher at Booker Elementary. She is always a positive and caring person to work with my daughter and her classmates. She taught my daughter how to sit criss-cross apple sauce this school year. My daughter is mostly non-verbal with Autism and she has been talking more than ever. Melody learned a song called “My School Family” because Mrs. Smith sings it to the class. Melody is now up to seven words in a sentence. Mrs. Smith keeps me informed with Melody’s progress and even has a text message communication with me that is very convenient and efficient. I could not have had a better special education teacher for my daughter these past two years (my daughter was in her K-3 class last year). Many fond memories have been made and we will miss Mrs. Smith next year in Kindergarten. Mrs. Smith has given Melody a structured schedule since Day 1 and has helped Melody cope with the emotions of transitioning tasks. I highly recommend Mrs. Laura Smith for this reward.
