Congratulations to
Life-Changing Teaching Award Nominee
KYLE BONAR
WEST CAREER & TECHNICAL ACADEMY
STUDENT RECOGNITION STORY
Mr. Bonar has always been there for me whenever I needed support. I had him for both my sophomore and junior years, and during my junior year, when I was dealing with a lot of health problems, he would notice without saying anything. Instead, he gave me the time I needed and offered help in any way he could. Over the years, he has inspired me to be a better person and shaped my vision for the future.
I always thought I wanted to be a nurse, but that changed in Mr. Bonar’s class. One day, he asked a simple question: “Pie or cake?” It was such a small moment, but it made me realize the power of connection and understanding in teaching. From that moment on, I knew I wanted to be a teacher, someone who can support and inspire students the way he inspired me.
Mr. Bonar genuinely cares about his students lives, getting to know us on a deeper level and creating a feeling of safety where we felt comfortable speaking up. In a classroom full of rowdy teenagers, students would quiet down and listen, showing him the same respect he gives us every day. He makes everyone feel seen, valued, and understood, and that is the kind of teacher I hope to become, someone who not only teaches but also guides and uplifts students in meaningful ways.
