Congratulations to
Life-Changing Teaching Award Nominee
KIMBERLY BUCKLEY
SPRINGWOODS VILLAGE MIDDLE SCHOOL
STUDENT RECOGNITION STORY
Dear Ms. Buckley,
I am truly grateful that I got to be in your class this year. You made a place I don’t quite enjoy being in actually enjoyable. I love learning. Learning new things is always a wonderful thing for me. I just didn’t really like learning at school. I know school is a place you learn, but it never seemed as fun or great as it is there then outside of it. You have made it enjoyable for me.
Before your class, and even some days now, no matter how much you say I am good at the curriculum, I believed I was not. In past years, I was always told math was my “strong suit.” I disliked math no matter how well I was at it. I loved English. I loved reading and writing, yet I was not so great at it. My spelling was terrible and no matter how hard I tried to read, no matter what book I got, nothing stuck to me.
Reading for me was like reading another language and with no glasses on. It was difficult. It wasn’t that I couldn’t read, it was more that words did not stick. Every paragraph I read would have to be reread about two to three more times just to process even the slightest. In your class it didn’t really feel like that. Sure, I still have to reread things over and over, but it didn’t seem like a struggle anymore. It felt more like just needing a little more time.
My grades were all the way to the floor before. I was barely making 80s. I know most would think that’s still good, but for me, it wasn’t so great. 80s was the bare minimum in my household, and I was barely doing it. In your class, though, I was making all A’s. I don’t actually remember the last time I had a B in English class. Everything felt so much easier. Like if life was put on easy mode.
You made a class I used to hate and dread seeing a class I genuinely look forward to. Every day, instead of counting down the classes till going home, I would count down until I could be in 8th period. I can’t be more grateful to be a student in your class. You made it feel like a safe environment and a fun learning place. Truly thank you for that.
I don’t typically choose favorite teachers or anything. I usually just see you all as just another teacher and the class I have to go to, nothing new to me. I do have a favorite teacher though. Something I didn’t really expect to have. The teacher is you. You are my favorite teacher till the day I graduate. Not the day I graduate from middle school, but the day I graduate from high school. You are my favorite teacher till the day I graduate high school, till the day I hope that comes when I graduate college.
You are probably always going to be my favorite teacher, even after school is completely over. I look up to you. I look up to you a lot, actually. You are someone I hope in the future I could be like in some way. I love your class and love having you as my teacher. You are so amazing and just a wonderful person to have as a teacher. Thank you for everything you have done. I will miss having you as my teacher next year, but hope to never forget how amazing of a teacher you were.
Sincerely, Alana (or Ari)
By the way I typed this all last second. I had seen that today (April 30th) was the last to send one out and thought to put you as the person.
