Congratulations to
Life-Changing Teaching Award Nominee
KENNETH LANTZ
WEST CAREER & TECHNICAL ACADEMY

STUDENT RECOGNITION STORY

The thing that makes Mr Lantz an awesome teacher and just a great person in general is that his classroom is always welcoming and even if you don't have his class, he stands outside with a puppet greeting everyone that passes and it'll give you a laugh since most teachers don't have that silly energy that he does. Some things that made me excited to go to his class when I had it last year was being able to eat in that class and talk with my friend and see Mr Lantz's puppets and play blooket whenever we had a quiz. We were always so competitive but that's what made it fun because it wasn't just a normal game of blooket, we actually had a good time together. The way Mr Lantz showed that he cared about me didn't have to be anything dramatic or loud. When I would have days when I felt more upset than usual, he would let me sit outside with my friend while I get myself calmed down. On some days, he let me and my friend sit outside just the two of us so I wouldn't be overwhelmed by the classroom chaos inside. I never doubted that Mr Lantz cared about me because when I first had his class, I thought it wouldn't be that great but once I got used to it, those days of me being upset went away because I had people around me that genuinely cared about me and my well-being. I knew I could be myself in that class and it was proof for me that things will always get better if you let them. The things Mr Lantz did to make me a better and more confident student was just reassuring me that everything would be okay and he made his classroom a safe environment where I could be myself without having to worry about being judged. Over time, I was able to be more confident in myself but he was a contribution to why I am where I am now.
