KELLY SPAHR
ROBERSON MIDDLE SCHOOL
STUDENT RECOGNITION STORY
Does your favorite teacher ever yell at you? Do you ever wish you didn't have to go to their class? Well, not my favorite teacher. My favorite teacher is Mr. Spahr. He is my favorite teacher because he makes sure all his students understand the material. Although sometimes he can be a little obnoxious, he still helps students out. To me, Mr. Spahr is like a telescope. He helps me see things clearly.
When I say Mr. Spahr can be obnoxious, I don't mean in a rude or mean type of way; I mean it in a “Why don't you know this?” type of way. Mr. Spahr is like this because he truly wants all his students to succeed academically. As Mr. Spahr has said himself, he wants to change the way we learn. One example of this is when he goes over do-nows. When he goes over do-nows, he asks the class out loud what the answer is. When the class is silent, he then helps us answer the question. Mr. Spahr isn't the type of teacher to kick a kid down when they don't know the material; he is the kind of teacher who helps them answer it. In fact, most of the class time is spent talking out loud to the class. What I mean by this is, say we are going over tectonic plates, Mr. Spahr won't just give us an assignment and expect us to learn ourselves; he will talk over it and make sure we all understand before giving us said assignment.
Another example of Mr. Spahr's unique teaching technique is when we were learning about weather. I didn't understand how the air coming from the north is different from the air coming from the south. Since i didnt understand, I decided it was best to ask Mr. Spahr. After asking Mr. Spahr and him explaining it to me, I then understood the difference between north and south air and why they were different. Not only did he describe the difference, but he also helped me memorize and actually know why they aren't the same thing. In conclusion, Mr. Spahr is not your average teacher. He doesn't teach so we can memorize, he teaches so that we understand.
