Congratulations to
Life-Changing Teaching Award Nominee
KEITH MCCLURE
MIAMI NORTHWESTERN SENIOR HIGH
STUDENT RECOGNITION STORY
When I first walked into my body painting class at Miami Northwestern Senior High School, I didn’t really know what to expect. I thought it was just going to be a normal art class, but then I met Mr. McClure, Keith McClure, and everything changed.
What makes Mr. McClure awesome is how real he is with us. He doesn’t act like one of those teachers that just gives work and sits down. He actually talks to us, jokes with us, and makes the class feel comfortable. He always tells us that our ideas matter, even if we think they’re not that good. That makes a big difference, especially when you’re nervous to try something new.
One thing he does that makes me excited to go to class is how creative everything is. Every project is different, and he lets us have freedom to come up with our own designs instead of copying something. He’ll play music sometimes while we work, and the whole class just feels chill but still focused. It doesn’t feel boring like some other classes.
Mr. McClure shows that he cares about us in small ways that actually matter. He checks in on us, asks how we’re doing, and notices when something seems off. If you’re struggling, he doesn’t just leave you behind he comes over and helps you step by step without making you feel embarrassed. He’s patient, and you can tell he really wants everyone to succeed.
He’s also helped me become more confident. Before this class, I didn’t really think I was good at many things, but he gave me a motivation to encouraged myself to keep going and not give up. He points out what I’m doing right, not just what I need to fix. Because of that, I started believing in myself more and actually trying harder.
Inside the classroom, he supports us by teaching us real techniques and pushing us to improve. Outside the classroom, he motivates us to think about our future and how our talents can go somewhere. He reminds us that what we do now matters and that we all have potential.
Overall, Mr. McClure isn’t just a great teacher he’s someone who makes a difference. He makes class something to look forward to, and he helps his students grow, not just in art but as people too.
