Congratulations to
Life-Changing Teaching Award Nominee
KATHRYN PULLEY
GREENBRIAR ELEMENTARY

STUDENT RECOGNITION STORY

Ms. Pulley was my library teacher from first to fourth grade. Ms. Pulley would always let us know what was going on in the world, anything from the solar eclipse to Ramadan. She also had the coolest lessons for example she got a grant to teach how to braid African American hair. She had the hardest job on school because everyone depended on her like family and she made us her family. She also had this awesome program called library helpers where forth and faith graders would skip recess to come down to the library and help younger grades. I thought I didn' like books or reading but then I found myself Skippy recess every Thursday and coming down to the library and then helping first graders . Ms. Pulley and the library also changed my life forever. One day I came down and there was a new kid from Haiti named simmians and he only spoke French. I asked Ms. Pulley about him and she told me all about he had been in the United States for six days and only spoke French. So I made it my mission to learn French so I would come down to the library with the French books Ms. Pulley had saved for me and I would look through them for so long. Ms. Pulley was so excited to announce that I had learned French. She would also find extra time for me and simmians to talk and help his English improve. She always let him sit next to her because he felt shy and like he didn't fit in. Some days he would have lots of energy and be running around but she would always calmly get him to calm down without interrupting her awesome lesson. Ms. Pulley did something that I thought no one could do she made me like reading. Thank you Ms. Pulley.
