Life-Changing Teaching Award Nominee
KARMESHA IRONS
ROOSEVELT ELEMENTARY

STUDENT RECOGNITION STORY

Ms. Irons is an extraordinary teacher. She taught both of my boys in kindergarten. What I love the most about her is that although my sons are twins they are uniquely their own person. Ms Irons made it her duty to personalize her relationship with both of my children. She understood that one needed to continuously feel validated by words of affirmation, and the other needed plenty hugs and one on one time. With twins it's so easy to become trapped in the comparisons game which tends to force onto children. In kindergarten both of my sons felt seen understood and loved. There was a never a sense of competition. Miss Iron's room was a safe haven. My sons are now in the second grade thriving in their own independency. They still stop by her class and give her hugs, she's still giving out words of affirmation. Kindergarten is such an important year. Your child's teacher sets the tone for grade school. Your child can come home and say I don't like school or your child could be like mine and come home saying I love school and asking if they can attend on Saturdays. Everyone needs a Miss Irons in their lives. I'm grateful that we have one in ours.
