My son, Raynell, recently experienced the devastating loss of his father. Although they lived in different states, they shared a very close bond, and this loss has been deeply impactful for him. During this incredibly difficult time, Ms. Hewitt has been an exceptional source of support, strength, and encouragement. What stands out most is her thoughtful and intentional approach. She did not single him out, baby him, or treat him differently from his peers. Instead, she showed genuine compassion while maintaining a sense of normalcy. She remained attentive, allowed him the space to express himself, and empowered him by asking what he needed. When Raynell shared that he did not want his classmates to know about his loss, Ms. Hewitt fully respected his wishes. She reassured him that if he ever needed a moment to cry or process his emotions, she would provide a safe and supportive space. Ms. Hewitt’s kindness, emotional awareness, and encouragement have had a profound impact. This is the first year my son has achieved Honor Roll, and remarkably, despite everything he is navigating emotionally, he has continued to thrive academically and has not fallen behind. That alone speaks volumes about the environment Ms. Hewitt creates and the dedication she has to her students’ well-being and success. I am deeply grateful for her consistent availability, her empathy, and her unwavering commitment. To me, Ms. Hewitt is more than a teacher—she is an essential part of my son’s village. She is truly deserving of this recognition, and I cannot think of anyone more worthy of being honored
