Congratulations to
Life-Changing Teaching Award Nominee
JOEY LAPUZ
FAISS MIDDLE SCHOOL

STUDENT RECOGNITION STORY

Mr. Lapuz is so awesome, I enjoyed his class last year as I am a past student. I am now in 7th grade. I had his double accelerated class in 6th grade. There were many things that make me excited to go to his class last year. For example, he had a personal domain that he would do for 20 minutes or more (it varies but it’s usually around the same time where we will start our class domain). In that personal domain, he would ask questions about how we are, and how we are at home, nothing too personal but enough for us to get to know everyone well. This personal domain made our class closer together just like a family. Mr. Lapuz makes me know that he cares about me by showing attention to things I like, interacting with me, and many more things which makes me have a closer relationship to him. He makes me a better and more confident student by calling us out for our achievements. For example, he would say “[first name] good job for completing Mathia/etc”. It made me more confident because I was a very silent and shy kid who would never express my feelings and whenever he would do that, everyone in my class would congratulate me making me feel my best. He has supported me inside the classroom by encouraging me to finish my assignments. He even did that with my peers also. Outside the classroom, I see him after school and I whenever I talk about my volleyball games/practice I always feel like he supports me by listening. Although he hasn’t been to one of my games before, I feel the encouragement and the boost for me to continue playing volleyball from him. In conclusion, Mr. Lapuz makes me feel my best and is the best teacher I have had in my years of school.
