Life-Changing Teaching Award Nominee
JENNIFER MARSH
EASTWOOD MIDDLE SCHOOL
STUDENT RECOGNITION STORY
When we started our 7th grade journey with our student, I was nervous. We struggled with lots of new freedoms in 6th grade and adjusting to all the middle school things was a lot, and we were nervous for the new year. Our student especially struggled with Math, as did I when I was that age, and I knew we were getting into much tougher stuff. My student has Math first block, so I was even more nervous. Those worries faded tremendously after our meet the teacher night at the beginning of the year when we met Mrs. Marsh and continued to fade as we got a check-in each week and could communicate with our child about what they were learning and doing. Mrs. Marsh sets expectations and praises the kids as they continue to hit each new thing, not only shouting them out in their classes, but calling out each block in her newsletters each week so we as parents can celebrate success as well. She has had patience, grace, and did I mention patience?! With our middle schooler as she has navigated a newer schedule that is every class, every day, instead of longer time in class, moving from a block to regular schedule. She has taken time to check in on my child when my child reached out about an uncomfortable situation she was in. She has helped her really understand what she is learning, and I believe her groundwork of trust she has laid with my child helped her achieve a nomination for National Junior Honor Society this year. Without Mrs. Marsh's constant encouragement starting off her day and helping boost her confidence, I think this year might have been a bit different for her. I am so grateful for her steadfastness and faith in my child, which has helped her really bloom this year! We are so lucky to have such an amazing teacher at Eastwood, and we are proud to have Mrs. Marsh in our child's life! THANK YOU!
