Life-Changing Teaching Award Nominee
JANINE JACK
TWIN CREEKS MIDDLE SCHOOL
STUDENT RECOGNITION STORY
My teacher, Ms. Jack, is awesome because she never gives up on her students and always believes we can do more than we think we can. She explains things in a way that actually makes sense, and if we don’t understand something the first time, she’ll try a different way instead of just moving on. She’s patient, kind, and she makes our classroom feel like a safe place where it’s okay to make mistakes and learn from them.
She makes me excited to go to class because she brings a lot of energy and creativity to her lessons. Instead of just lecturing, she uses activities, group work, and real-life examples that connect what we’re learning to our lives. She jokes with us, celebrates our small wins, and makes even the hard topics feel interesting and doable. I know that when I walk into her class, I won’t just be sitting and copying notes – I’ll actually be engaged and learning.
She shows that she cares about me by checking in, not just about my grades, but about how I’m doing as a person. If I look upset or tired, she’ll quietly ask if I’m okay or if I need anything. She listens when I talk, remembers the things I tell her, and follows up later to see how things turned out. She also stays after class or school to help when I’m struggling and never makes me feel bad for needing extra help.
She makes me a better and more confident student by pushing me to challenge myself. When I doubt my abilities, she reminds me of the progress I’ve already made and encourages me to keep going. She gives specific feedback on my work so I know what I did well and what I can improve, instead of just giving a grade. Because of her, I’ve started to participate more, ask more questions, and believe that I can succeed in more difficult work.
She has supported me both inside and outside of the classroom. In class, she’s always there to help with assignments, explain concepts, and make sure I don’t fall behind. Outside of class, she writes encouraging notes, checks in about things going on in my life, and supports my goals, whether they’re academic or personal. She’s the kind of teacher I feel I can go to if I’m having a hard day, need advice, or just need someone to listen. Her support has made school feel more like a community and has truly made a difference in my life.
