Congratulations to
Life-Changing Teaching Award Nominee
JAMES MOORE
ROBERSON MIDDLE SCHOOL

STUDENT RECOGNITION STORY

Never Forget How I Felt As Maya Angelou had said, “People will forget what you said.. But people will never forget how you made them feel.” He made my creativity feel seen. My favorite teacher is like an old motivational poster, he’s encouraging you from a distance, but you know he’s there cheering you on. This teacher helped me believe that my creativity and critical thinking wasn't just like any other normal teenager at our school. He made me feel and know that I was special, project after project, conversation after conversation. Mr. Moore is one of the best teachers I've had, he not only makes class completely understandable, but also makes the lesson fun and actually makes people want to learn things that happened over 200 years ago. He helped me become efficient with not only my academics, but in actual situations as well. Whenever we have a project and I need a good opinion from someone, Mr. Moore is the way to go. During our Shark Tank Project, he helped me make the idea me and my partner had made come to life. He helped change a simple design to something that might actually become something in the world instead of just for a simple group project. When he gives lectures while learning about something, sometimes the lecture hits a part in me when it clicks with something that I had experienced/ am experiencing. Everyday when I entered into 4th period, if I was in a bad mood, that changed as soon as I gave Mr. Moore a fist bump. His teaching style has always made it easier for me, referencing things he’d learned from the other kids or his nieces and nephews to help us better understand the lesson. He shows he cares not only about me but to everyone else by truly paying attention to the student while they ask him something. He takes the time out of his day after school to help people with photos for their project, record, ideas, etc. When you ask him a question, especially about history; he can go on for almost half of the class, which shows how he truly cared and took a deep thought about the question and answered it. If something happened outside of the classroom, for example: a school wide performance. You would immediately see him in the first few rows recording the entire performance. Afterwards in class the next day, he would tell you how much of a good job you did in the performance, from being an MC, to performing. Mr. Moore truly cares about his students and I'm glad I was a part of his roster and had the opportunity to have him as a teacher.
