Life-Changing Teaching Award Nominee
JAMES MOORE
ROBERSON MIDDLE SCHOOL

STUDENT RECOGNITION STORY

For the past two years, I’ve had the privilege of being in Mr. Moore’s social studies class, and in that time, he has become much more than just a teacher to me. When I first walked into his classroom, I thought social studies was just going to be about memorizing dates, places, and names. But Mr. Moore had a different plan. He turned every lesson into a story, every chapter into a journey, and every discussion into a chance for us to think for ourselves. Instead of just teaching us about history, he helped us understand how it connects to our lives today. There were days when I felt tired or unmotivated, but his energy and patience never seemed to run out. He always made sure everyone understood, no matter how many questions we asked. If someone was struggling, he slowed down and explained things in a new way. He never made anyone feel embarrassed for not getting it the first time. One of the things I appreciate most about Mr. Moore is how he respects his students. He listens to our opinions, even when we disagree, and encourages us to back up our ideas with facts. He taught me that my voice matters and that I should always think carefully about the world around me. Because of him, I’ve learned not only about history and government, but also about responsibility, empathy, and being an informed citizen. He has shown me that social studies isn’t just a school subject—it’s about real people, real choices, and real consequences. After two years in his class, I can honestly say I’ve grown as both a student and a person. I appreciate the time, effort, and care he puts into every lesson. I appreciate the way he pushes us to do our best, and the way he believes in us even when we don’t always believe in ourselves. Thank you, Mr. Moore, for teaching me for these two years, for making social studies meaningful, and for having such a positive impact on my life. I truly appreciate you.
