My mariachi teacher is truly a maestro, not just because of their talent, but because of the pride and energy they bring to every rehearsal. They make me excited to go to class by turning every song into a lesson about culture and storytelling, making us feel like more than just a band—we’re a family. They show they care by noticing the small things, like when I’m struggling with a difficult bridge or having a bad day, and they always take the time to offer a word of encouragement. By pushing me to master challenging solos and perform with orgullo, they’ve helped me find a level of confidence I never knew I had. Whether they are cheering me on during a community performance or checking in on my life outside of music, they’ve shown me that being a great musician is about heart just as much as technique.
