Life-Changing Teaching Award Nominee
HANAN DZURNY
ALLISONVILLE ELEMENTARY

STUDENT RECOGNITION STORY

What makes Mrs. Dzurny so awesome? She meets my child at his level of learning and emotion needs. My son is always excited to go to school he actually can’t wait to return to class after breaks. I believe he most enjoys all hands on activities that go with the lesson plan. Mrs. Dzurny pays attention to my son individually and makes herself available to me so we can reflect the same standards at school and at home. I can reach her anytime and she is always informative, kind, and willing to compromise with my level of parenting. I am lost sometimes and she gives so much encouragement and ideas to try. I can tell Sean is way more confident. Since the start of school he often initiate learning time like puzzles and book time at home. He even says encouraging things to himself. I know he is being uplifted in class by the teachers. Lastly, she supports me especially by being a resource for figuring out my son’s most recent diagnosis with ADHD. She has shared her experience with me. I feel confident I can get not only advice but I trust her. She is the reason we started our journey with Sean learning at his best. I decided on medication and she was supportive helping me make sure he drinks enough water through the day. If he’s eating enough. Due to some of the symptoms of the medication are decreased appetite. It has been very helpful with her communication to details on Sean being able to focus because it could change his medication or dosage. And it gives me a little relief to know he can do his best. We will be so sad to leave her classroom next year. Thank you.
