Congratulations to
Life-Changing Teaching Award Nominee
FATIMA OCHOA
DEKANEY HIGH SCHOOL
STUDENT RECOGNITION STORY
In my 3 years of high school, she has been the teacher that has closest hit home with me. Even when I would avoid a lot to communicate or try to interact with other students, she always made sure to make the classroom and her own classes as best as possible. As time passed, she eventually knew me and knew how I worked which led her to see something I don't see in me. Not only this applies to me, but she sees potential in every student that walks into her classroom, she may tell them a lot to do things or call them out often, but it's because she sees how they can change for the better. My junior year was probably my worst year academically because of school and personal issues that eventually made me give up on myself. But she didn't give up and would still hype me up without her knowing. She is a teacher that makes me want to give it my all to repay her hard work. She is a teacher that doesn't give up on students unlike many teachers I've met. If she hears an issue from any of us, she will try everything in her power to fix it for us and give us the best outcome or even fix the problem, she won't give up until she gets a solution. In all honesty, we keep losing teachers like this year after year because of the newer generations and also school conditions, but keeping their head up and knowing their students, will inspire them to do more than what they see themselves doing. Her classes haven't only been useful for my AP test, they have functioned well outside of school or even other classes too.
