Congratulations to
Life-Changing Teaching Award Nominee
EDWARD HRUSKOCY
NORTH CENTRAL HIGH SCHOOL
STUDENT RECOGNITION STORY
What makes this teacher awesome?
My AP U.S. History teacher is awesome because he makes learning interesting and fun. He’s always telling his “67 jokes,” which somehow never get old, and he brings a lot of energy into the classroom. Even early in the morning when everyone is tired, he still comes in enthusiastic and ready to teach. He also acts out different historical moments, which makes the lessons way more memorable and helps us actually understand what happened instead of just reading about it.
What are some things they do to make you excited to go to class?
He makes class exciting by making history feel alive. Instead of just lecturing, he uses humor, storytelling, and acting to explain events. His enthusiasm makes it easier to pay attention and actually want to learn. You never really know what he’s going to do next in class, and that makes it fun to show up each day.
How do they let you know that they care about you?
He shows that he cares by being really patient and understanding with his students. He gives people the time they need to understand the material and is always willing to help if someone is struggling. He also gives grace when students need it and makes sure people feel supported rather than stressed.
What do they do to make you a better and more confident student?
He pushes us to think deeper about history while also making sure we feel capable of doing the work. Because he’s patient and encouraging, it makes it easier to ask questions and try even when something is difficult. That support helps build confidence and makes students feel like they can succeed in a challenging class like AP U.S. History.
How have they supported you inside and outside of the classroom?
Inside the classroom, he supports students by explaining things clearly, answering questions, and giving people the time they need to understand the material. Outside the classroom, he is still willing to help and make sure students are doing okay. His support and encouragement make a big difference and show that he really cares about his students’ success.
