Congratulations to
Life-Changing Teaching Award Nominee
DAVID WHEELER
NORTH CENTRAL HIGH SCHOOL

STUDENT RECOGNITION STORY

1. Mr. Wheeler made learning fun. He was strict enough to keep the whole class on task, but also amiable enough that it was easy to ask for help. He had been teaching for so long that he always had the class planned down to the minutes. He also had an awesome ability of perfectly planning his lessons so that he would end literally one second before the bell rang every day. 2. The T-Shirt reveals. During a lecture, Mr. Wheeler would unzip his jacket to reveal a T-Shirt with a witty history saying on it. The first was: "Uh Oh! -British, 1776." They were fun and kept the class entertained. 3. Mr. Wheeler was so passionate about his job. It was clear in everything he did. He tried his best to come to school every day that was possible and just cared so much about his student's eductation. I truly believe that his teaching career was one of his favorite things. 4. Mr. Wheeler made me a better and more confident student by inspring me. He was always enthusastic about my ideas, such as my NHD project. He always knew what he was talking about, that much was clear. His self-confidence in teaching and his steadfastness in deadlines pushed me to be the best student I could be. 5. Mr. Wheeler had always supported my ideas and fostered his student's knowledge. In NHD, I specifically remember him going up to me and encouraging me to pursue my topic of Virignia Hall. In class disscusions, his back-up questions kept us on our toes. He always pushed us to look beyond the political landscape and into the moral perspective of each topic. Half of the questions on outside reading papers would often be opinion-based. Furthermore, he was so passionate about politics, history, and the future of America, that he was adamant about us voting when we get older. I honestly wish this sort of passion for teaching and intelligence in teaching methods was present in every teacher. He was truly one of a kind.
