Congratulations to
Life-Changing Teaching Award Nominee
CLARA NARANJO-VARGAS
CUTLER BAY MIDDLE

STUDENT RECOGNITION STORY

I started middle as a very shy girl, I was scared specially right after covid learning to socialize in a safe way was difficult. Moreover , I’ve been diagnosed since I was little with anxiety and OCD, this developed as a intense fear of failure and extensive self though. I owe a lot of my current confidence to Mrs. Vargas, she was not only a teacher but a mentor and mother figure, she made me feel welcomed and supported. I am so thankful I was able to meet her and have her be a part of my life. She helped me through countless tears and ailments, she cared deeply for me and helped me see that If I believed it I could go farther than I ever expected. Thanks to her I don’t struggle with testing anxiety anymore and when I do I not only have her words in the back of my mind but the security of a 504 that she not only helped me get but also understand and not feel embarrassed about. And as if she was not wonderfully kind already, my 8th grade year I develop an eating disorder that nearly took my life, during this time she had me eat lunch in her class and made sure I knew I was not alone and while in the moment I did not understand that this was incredibly selfless and kind, now I am so grateful she cared and I owe her a lot of my healing. I will never forget Mrs. Vargas she’s one of those people you can’t.
