Life-Changing Teaching Award Nominee
CLARA NARANJO-VARGAS
CUTLER BAY MIDDLE
STUDENT RECOGNITION STORY
My fourth and fifth grade teacher, Ms. Naranjo-Vargas, is one of the most memorable and impactful teachers I have ever had. What made her so awesome was the way she made learning fun and exciting. Her teaching style was engaging, and she always found ways to make lessons interactive. We did a lot of group activities and worked together often, which made the classroom feel close-knit. Because of that, our class truly felt like a family, and it made coming to school something I looked forward to every day.
One of the biggest reasons I was always excited to go to class was because she made learning enjoyable. Her lessons never felt boring, and she always found ways to involve everyone. Whether it was group work, discussions, or creative activities, she made us want to participate and pay attention.
She also showed that she truly cared about her students. When I was younger, I struggled in school and was diagnosed with ODD, which made learning and staying focused difficult for me at times. I wasn’t always the easiest student, but she handled it with patience and understanding. Instead of giving up on me, she believed in me and pushed me to do better. Because of her support, I ended up winning the “Most Improved Student” award both years that I had her. That meant a lot to me, and I truly believe I earned that because she helped me see that I was capable of succeeding.
She made me a more confident student by constantly encouraging me and reminding me that I could do the work if I tried. Writing essays was one of my biggest struggles, and there were times I wanted to give up because I felt frustrated. But she always encouraged me to keep going and showed me that I could accomplish things that I didn’t think I could.
Ms. Naranjo-Vargas supported me both inside and outside of the classroom by believing in me and helping me grow as a student and a person. She helped me build confidence in my abilities at a time when I really needed it. Even years later, I still remember how much she helped me and the impact she had on my life.
She is truly one of the best teachers I have ever had, and I am incredibly grateful that I had the opportunity to be in her class.
