Metcalf you sincerely changed my life, even though it may be a little overplayed hearing the same thing over and over again, you inspired me to choose the path that I am following in college, teaching. All the way until the end of my sophomore year, I wanted to be a lawyer, just wanting to chase money and improve people's lives, however, you proved to me that you can change people's lives through teaching. I would walk into 7th period AP World everyday, genuinely excited to learn, ready for dad jokes, ready for Ignacio's nonsense in turn and talks, and most importantly- excited to see what we were doing that day. I remember my sophomore year, honestly even my junior year so far not being the best- getting dragged into drama that doe's not involve me, problems with girls, over stressed about other classes, but somehow my mind would completely reset in your class, not only because of your teaching, but because of the environment that you created. There were plenty of people I did not interact with outside of your class, however due to your inclusion of everybody in the class, we all developed a bond in that class. The final days of school completely reflected that; all of us brought things to share to throw together one last farewell party, reflecting how close we had all gotten. In the future, I hope to fully replicate your teaching style, creating a safe environment for all of my students while teaching them history lessons they'll never forget. I don't want my students to be like me, late and missing work, I'll try to change their paths- to better reflect you and the other students in that class that fully encapsulated what a real student should be, students like Avesta, Ahmad, Ashman, and Alexa. Hopefully I can get a job at Irving once you leave, to carry on your legacy and continue to be students introduction to a real AP class while also being the best teacher they can have, (while also changing the wrestling program but thats besides the point). Thank you Metcalf for truly being the GOAT.
