Life-Changing Teaching Award Nominee
ASHLEE SADLER
CLEARWATER ELEMENTARY
STUDENT RECOGNITION STORY
I have such a unique situation as a Foster Parent to where I’m able to encounter multiple teachers in a building multiple times with different students of different backgrounds and previous learning situations. But each time I’ve had a student Miss Sadler‘s room I’m blessed to say it was their Miss Honey year. (Think Matilda). They start the year and they are scared, they are timid and they have no clue what’s going on as they have generally not had any prior education before coming to kindergarten. I am of course, a ball of nerves and the overzealous’s parent that messages her way too many times and volunteers for anything she needs so I can make sure my kiddo is doing just fine. Only to find an amazing teacher that taps into that child’s special abilities and gets them at grade level by the end of the year. She communicates much more than any contract time tells her that she has to. She is never afraid to offer additional work or give me helpful advice when it comes to my kiddos that are in her room. I can message her and ask her to fix a ponytail that wasn’t quite right before the bus came or give extra hugs because the night before I had been one of trauma. And I know that they are safe for those eight hours that they are with her that they are loved, cared for and seen. But most importantly that for those eight hours, their trauma doesn’t matter what happened the night before it doesn’t matter the visit that went wrong doesn’t matter all that matters is there are with their favorite teacher. She’s gonna teach them all the things. She’s gonna love them and do anything she can to make sure they are a successful student. One time can be a fluke, but this is multiple times. We are on round three of her being one of my kiddos favorite people and her having an impact on my family and the children that are in my home. She is absolutely an asset to Clearwater and I hope they know how lucky they are to have her on the Kindergarten team.
