Congratulations to
Life-Changing Teaching Award Nominee
ANGELIA WARD
BAILEY MIDDLE SCHOOL

STUDENT RECOGNITION STORY

As a single mother, there were seasons where I felt like I was carrying more than I knew how to handle, especially when my oldest daughter was struggling. During one of those hardest seasons, Ms. Angela Ward became more than just a teacher. She became a lifeline. Ms. Ward was my daughter’s English teacher at Bailey Middle School, at a time when my daughter was dealing with significant behavioral challenges. At that point, we didn’t yet have a diagnosis. I was doing everything I could, working with professionals, trying to understand what my child needed, and how to help her succeed. And in the middle of all that uncertainty, Ms. Ward chose to see my daughter for who she was beyond the behavior. That meant everything. Where others may have felt overwhelmed or unsure, Ms. Ward leaned in with patience, compassion, and intentional care. She didn’t dismiss my daughter. She didn’t label her. She didn’t give up on her. Instead, she met her where she was and found ways to help her grow. She has a special gift for connecting with students who need a little more understanding, a little more patience, and a little more heart. She created a classroom environment where my daughter felt safe… safe to learn, safe to express herself, and safe to keep trying even when things were hard. As a parent, I also needed support during that time, and Ms. Ward showed up for me too. She communicated with me, helped provide insight and documentation when I needed it, and became someone I could trust while I was navigating such a critical time in my daughter’s life. She wasn’t just teaching my child, she was helping me fight for her. Most importantly, she became a safe place for my daughter during a time when she didn’t fully understand herself. Adolescence is already difficult, but when you add emotional and mental challenges, it can feel overwhelming. Ms. Ward made sure my daughter never felt alone in that. Even now, years later, my daughter still speaks highly of her. That tells me everything I need to know. Ms. Ward is the kind of teacher every parent prays their child will encounter, especially when life gets hard. She is patient, nurturing, understanding, and deeply committed to the well-being of her students. Because of her, my daughter didn’t just get through that season, she grew through it. As a single mother, I will never forget the role Ms. Ward played in our lives. Teachers like her don’t just educate… they uplift, they advocate, and they change lives. She is beyond deserving of this award, and I am forever grateful for the love, care, and dedication she poured into my child.
