Mrs. Schmeidt was a mentor of mine when I was in school. She took me under her wing and played a huge role in shaping me into the young woman I am today. One of my core memories I have of Mrs. Schmeidt was when she had the entire class create a resume. I was 17 years old, had never had a job & felt as if getting a job with no experience would have been impossible. But she didn’t just teach us how to build a resume—she taught us how to present ourselves, how to sit confidently in an interview, and how to make a lasting first impression. I submitted my resume to Staples and applied for a cashier position. I got called in for interview & took all the knowledge that Mrs. Schmeidt taught us in class. To say i nailed my interview was an understatement. I was offered a position in the Print & Marketing department. At the time, I was only 17 and couldn’t begin working until I turned 18, but they believed in me enough to wait. Three months later, on February 13, 2019, I officially began my onboarding. To this day, I still use the skills I learned in Mrs. Schmeidt’s class, and I truly couldn’t have asked for a better teacher. Her guidance continues to impact me, and I’m proud to say that I am now working in the Water & Sewer Department for Miami-Dade County.
