Life-Changing Teaching Award Nominee
AMY AUCH
CHARLES AND PHYLLIS FRIAS ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
STUDENT RECOGNITION STORY
In a bright classroom filled with tiny chairs and even tinier backpacks, there was a kindergarten teacher named Ms. Auch who seemed, to her students, nothing short of magical.
Every morning, she stood at the door, greeting each child like they were the most important person in the world. Somehow, she remembered who had a loose tooth, who was nervous about their first day, and who had just learned to tie their shoes. Her smile had a way of turning shaky steps into confident ones.
Ms. Auch could turn the simplest things into adventures. The alphabet wasn’t just letters—it was a parade of animals and stories. The number 10 wasn’t just a number—it was ten jumping frogs, ten shining stars, ten giggles in a row. Even rainy days became exciting, because that meant indoor treasure hunts and stories told with voices that made everyone laugh.
But what made her truly amazing wasn’t just the fun—it was how she made every child feel seen. When someone struggled to read, she sat beside them patiently, celebrating every small victory like it was the greatest achievement in the world. When someone felt left out, she gently guided friendships to bloom. And when tears appeared, she always seemed to know just what to say to make them disappear.
To the outside world, Ms. Auch was “just” a kindergarten teacher. But to her students, she was a guide, a cheerleader, a storyteller, and sometimes even a hero. She helped them discover not just letters and numbers, but courage, kindness, and confidence.
Years later, those children might forget the worksheets and the songs. But they would never forget how she made them feel—like they mattered, like they were capable, and like the world was a place full of wonder waiting just for them.
And that’s why Ms. Auch wasn’t just amazing—she was unforgettable.
