Mrs Yakonich is an absolute gem! We had a heart breaking passing of a kindergarten teacher on the first day of school which left a big hole and some scrambling to fill her spot. Mrs Yakonich gracefully took the full time job during this difficult time. Kindergarten might not be what she dreamed of teaching, but she’s the teacher we dream of having! She stepped right up and took on a kindergarten class. The children in her room adore her and want to show her everything they do! Aside from being a great teacher, what has touched me the most is how much she cares about each child. When someone is out sick, she checks in on them! Most notably, a little boy in her class witnessed his father die in a traumatic way. She gathered gift cards and meaningful items to give him before he moved schools. She visited him and shared her love one last time. Sometimes it’s these actions outside of school and normal expectations that really shine the brightest.
