ALBERT MORALES
FRANK D. PARENT (TK-8) SCHOOL

STUDENT RECOGNITION STORY

Mr. Morales recognized Eva's unique needs and, with a thoughtful approach, began to weave a tapestry of structure and routine into the classroom's daily rhythm. He introduced visual schedules, clearly outlining each activity, and used consistent verbal cues to prepare Eva for transitions. "First, we'll read a story, then it's playtime," he would say, his voice a calm anchor in Eva's sometimes tumultuous emotional sea. This predictable flow helped Eva anticipate what was next, reducing anxiety and fostering a sense of security. Slowly but surely, Eva started to understand and manage her feelings, learning to navigate her day with newfound confidence. Beyond the classroom, Mr. Morales championed Eva's communication needs. He noticed her frustration when her words couldn't keep pace with her thoughts and tirelessly advocated for her. He initiated the process for an augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) device assessment, a step that would profoundly change Eva's world. With the device in hand, Eva discovered a powerful new voice, her face lighting up with joy as she pressed icons to form sentences and share her ideas. Mr. Morales didn't stop there. Understanding the importance of consistency, he meticulously created personalized materials for Eva to use at home. These included vibrant picture communication boards tailored to her daily activities and interests, empowering Eva and her family to continue practicing and expanding her communication skills outside of school. Thanks to Mr. Morales's unwavering dedication, compassionate understanding, and proactive support, Eva blossomed. She learned to regulate her emotions, found her voice through the AAC device, and continued her journey of growth with the loving support of her family and the foundational tools provided by her remarkable teacher. Mr. Morales didn't just teach lessons; he taught Eva how to thrive.
